Aleda passed away peacefully at the Brome Missisquoi Perkins Hospital in Cowansville, on Thursday, July 20, 2017, in her 97th year. Altough she grew up in Ontario, she spent most of her adult life in Quebec, residing in Bedford, Lennoxville, Venise-en-Quebec and lastly in Philipsburg. She loved the Arts, being an accomplished weaver and she loved the outdoors, especially canoeing and crosscountry skiing.
Aleda was the wife of the late William VanHorn, the mother of the late Don VanHorn, Marnie Beaugrand (Scott), Kathy Orvis (Dave), and Grace VanHorn (Alan Foy); she was the sister of Bill Workman (Bernice), of the late Grace Scott (John) and of the late Russell Workman (Dorothy); she was also predeceasd by her sisters-in-law Mary Wallace (Russ), Ruth Mathews (Don), and Dorothy VanHorn.
Also saddened by their loss are 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family appreciate all the loving care given to their Mom by the staff at the Manoir Philipsburg over the past couple of years.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the William VanHorn Memorial Scholarship Fund at Bishop’s University would be greatly appreciated.

As a teen, I served on the St. James Altar Guild with Mrs. Van Horn. Together, we polished the brass and talked together for a few hours every few weeks. At age 15 I sat for a pastel portrait by her; it hangs in my home to this day. She was a lovely, sweet person.

Marnie, Kathy and Grace: Many years ago, I had the pleasure of baby-sitting you ladies (and your late brother Don) when you all lived in Bedford. In fact, I had my designated room for the many nights that I slept over while babysitting. Your Mother was my Guide Leader during these years. I consider myself very fortunate to have known your Mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. My Deepest Sympathy. Mary (Muncaster) Brodersen

I was one of the lucky ones to take care of Mrs. Vanhorn while I worked at the Manoir. Such a lovely person. My deepest sympathies. xoxo

To the VanHorn family, very sorry to hear that your mother , grandmother, and mother-in -law Aleda passed away. Would often see her after church and go and say hello either in her room or the dining room. Sometimes I had my dog with me who she enjoyed patting. Such a nice lady and so nice to see all the family photos in her room. So sorry not to have been at her service which we only heard about today. She is now at peace in God's loving care along with Don and her husband. Our Deepest Sympathy. Margaret and Hugh
